Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, so it makes sense to start thinking about all things love and romance. That’s why I’m bringing you a guide on how to make a cute, pink drink today: a blushing sparkler cocktail, to be exact.

It’s full of fun, frivolity, and flavour… but will it tick your cocktail boxes? Let’s find out…

Blushing Sparkler Cocktail: Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to make this blushing sparkler cocktail:

  • Whipped Cream Vodka
  • Sparkling Pink Grapefruit Juice
  • Lemon Juice
  • Lemon Wedges/Slices (or orange/your favourite fruit)

If you aren’t much of a measurer, just remember this: one part vodka to four parts pink grapefruit juice. You can always add more vodka if you like a s-t-r-o-n-g drink.

You will also need the following tools and utensils:

  • Knife + chopping board (to cut those lemons – safety first!)
  • Glass
  • Ice
  • Shaker

Blushing Sparkling Cocktail: Instructions

Before I get started with the first step, grab all of your ingredients and all the bits n’ pieces you’ll need to make the cocktail – shaker, etc. It’s a good way of checking you have everything you need before getting halfway through making a drink and realising you don’t.

Step One: Prepare the Glass

Grab your favourite glass, then fill it with ice. You can pour some of the ice out before you pour the drink in, but filling the glass with ice first helps to chill it. You don’t want a warm glass with a cold cocktail, do you?

Step Two: Into the Shaker

Throw the vodka, quick squeeze of lemon juice, and the grapefruit juice into a shaker or mixer. You can always use an empty glass food jar if you don’t have a shaker. Just make sure it has been thoroughly cleaned, rinsed, and dried. You don’t want bits of leftover Bolognese sauce in your cocktail.

Once the ingredients are in, add the lid and then give it a god shake. Go crazy with it. Shake it like you’re dancing. Think of it as an arm muscle workout.

Step Three: Pour into the Glass

There aren’t any ingredients to make this drink lumpy, but if it makes you feel better, you can strain the drink into the class so it looks like you’re a proper cocktail maker.

Step Four: Garnish

Before serving, add a little something to garnish. You could add a lemon wedge, which is my personal preference, or you could get super fancy and add a swirl of lemon peel, a few berries, or whatever you like.

You don’t have to garnish a cocktail, of course, but it just looks so much fancier when you do. (In my opinion.)

Step Five: Drink/Serve

It’s now time to serve up your cocktail, or drink it.

I’m a fan of the latter. (Obviously.)

Blushing Sparkler Cocktail: Pimp It Up

If you want to add a little more za-za-zoom to your cocktail, there are plenty of ways in which you could do it.

I like to add edible glitter to my drinks, which makes them shimmer and catch the light. Pink or silver/gold sparkles would look great in this boozy beverage, but there’s nothing to stop you from adding whatever damn colour you like!

You could always consider adding candy floss-style decorations, or adding flavoured sugar or sauce/syrup to the rim of the glass.

And, as there’s ‘sparkler’ in the name, why not add an actual sparkler? Just remember to be safe and sensible with it, of course. There’s no romance in a house fire!

Remember: Always drink responsibly.
