Pasta, pasta, pasta… It’s such a versatile food item, used in a wide range of dishes, from all corners of the globe. You can have it hot or cold, vegan and vegetarian as well as meaty, and topped in a whole variety of ways. I love mushrooms in my pasta because they make the perfect meat substitute. They absorb flavours well, have a texture that works well in the place of meat, and there are so many different types to pick from. Button, closed cup, portobello, shiitake… need I go on?
While I’m talking about mushrooms, you should know about the lengthy list of benefits they can bring. According to Web MD, they can help to lower blood pressure, give your immune system a little boost, provide you with plenty of fibre and protein, and are packed with antioxidants. And, you know, they’re simply great to eat.

Cheesy Pasta Ideas for Vegetarians
There really is a pasta dish to suit everyone, whether you’re a fan of spaghetti, farfalle, tagliatelle, or any other kind. Alongside mushrooms I also like my pasta to be topped with plenty of cheese. And when I say plenty, I really do mean plenty. How much cheese is too much cheese, anyway?
With a neutral flavour, you can add pretty much anything you like to pasta. As you’ll see from this delicious little collection, there are plenty sauces and additions to choose from. They’re easily tweaked to make them vegan and/or gluten-free, too. See: pasta is super versatile!

Nuts can provide extra texture to a dish when there isn’t meat, and even where there is. The soft pasta and the crunchiness of cashews and other nuts balance well, and they can also increase the flavour, too.
