I’m not going to comment on the name of this cocktail because it would be childish of me, but please know that I’ve got a list of jokes and funny one-liners in my head that I’m dying to share with you. Childish jokes aside, let’s find out how to make a magic boner cocktail.

Giggles.

Magic Boner Cocktail: Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to make this naughty-named cocktail:

  • Gin – 15ml (½oz)
  • Vodka – 15ml (½oz)
  • Triple Sec – 15ml (½oz)
  • Light Rum – 15ml (½oz)
  • Grenadine – 15ml (½oz)
  • Champagne – 30ml (1oz)
  • Lime Juice – 1 teaspoon
  • Sweet & Sour Mix – 60ml (2oz)
  • Lemon (peeled and spiralled, for garnish)

If you’re not much of a measurer, just remember this: equal parts of gin, vodka, triple sec, light rum, and grenadine, plus double the amount of champagne, and double-double sweet and sour mix. Add a squeeze of lime juice to your desired taste.

Half the fun is learning how to make the cocktail, getting it wrong, and performing lots of taste tests. That’s my reasoning, anyway. Experiment a bit. Play around with ingredients and try new flavours. That’s how new cocktails are invented, after all.

What is Sweet and Sour Mix for Cocktails?

Sweet and sour mix tends to be more of an American/North American thing than a British thing, but we do have similar things over here, and you can buy versions of sweet and sour mix, particularly on Amazon.

In British terms, sweet and sour mix is essentially like very concentrated lemonade. Imagine if you have diluting juice and you added that in with lemonade, but you added far more of the juice than was necessary? That’s pretty much sweet and sour mix for cocktails. It’s sweet, and it’s sour.

What Can I Use Instead of Sweet and Sour Mix?

If you don’t have sweet and sour mix, don’t worry, you can use plenty of other things instead. Why not try one of the following:

  • Lemonade
  • Margarita mix
  • Limeade/Lemon-Limeade (7Up, for example)
  • Orange juice
  • Pineapple juice
  • Orange and pineapple juice mixed together
  • Soda water with flavour, such as lemon/lime cordial

Magic Boner Cocktail: Tools & Equipment

You will also need the following bits n’ pieces to make the drink:

  • Highball glass (or your favourite glass)
  • Shaker (or clean, empty jar/similar)
  • Strainer

Magic Boner Cocktail: Instructions

This recipe is pretty simple to make.

Let’s break it down, step-by-step.

Step One: Grab Ingredients & Utensils

It’s always good to have everything to hand before you get started, otherwise you’ll end up fumbling around for something later on. That’s always super annoying. You should probably also check that you’ve got everything you need.

Step Two: Prepare the Glass

You will want to fill your highball glass (or your favourite glass) with ice. If you’re not a fan of lots of ice, don’t put lots of ice in. It’s down to you.

The idea of adding ice to the glass before you make the drink is to give the glass chance to chill. You can always pour it out before you pour the drink in.

Step Three: Add n’ Shake

Grab your shaker and add the following: vodka, triple sec, gin, grenadine, lime juice, sweet and sour mix, and rum. Basically, everything except the champagne and lemon garnish.

Once all the ingredients are in there, put the top on the shaker and give it a good shake.

As Outkast once said: “Shake it like a Polaroid picture.”

Step Four: Strain into the Glass

Straining the cocktail into the glass just makes sure there’s no lumps or unpleasant bits in it. No one wants to chew their cocktail. Well, unless it’s jelly or another type of chewable cocktail, obviously.

Step Five: Top Up & Garnish

There should be a bit of space between the top of the liquid and the top of the glass. That space should be filled with champagne. I’d personally like to fill every space with champagne, but that’s just me.

If you’ve got fancy knife skills and can create a lemon spiral to garnish the drink, do that. If you’re no good at that kind of thing (like me), you can just whack a slice of lemon or lime on the side of the glass. It’ll look just as good.

Step Six: Drink/Serve

If you’re serving it up, it’s time to serve your Magic Boner cocktail up. (Giggles.)

If you’re drinking it all yourself, it’s time to drink it.

Simples.

Remember: Always drink responsibly.
